Blog Tour: Review of The Summer of Chasing Dreams by Holly Martin

Eva Blue is about to go on a trip of a lifetime, but one adventure she didn't count on was falling in love...
Eva is quite content with her life in London. In her job as a cover designer, she works at home, and often in her cosy pyjamas. She's happy to stay in her safe little world and not explore much outside of it.
She is the opposite of her mum, a free spirit who craved finding adventure and thrills in all corners of the world. But on the day her mum’s will is finalised, Eva finds a list of all the dreams her mum wanted to achieve in her life. Things she never did because she fell pregnant with Eva.
Eva decides these dreams will not go unfulfilled - she is going to be brave and complete them for her mum. As Eva has no experience travelling the world, she hires a guide to go with her on this holiday.
Gorgeous but rude Thor Anderson is not the person she would choose to accompany her on this journey, but somehow she gets stuck with him. As they discover the world together Eva starts to think he might not be as bad as she first thought. She is swept away by Thor's kindness and mischievous sense of humour. But will it be a simple holiday romance or could this wonderful adventure lead to so much more?

Review: Well I've said it before and I'll say it again, Holly Martin knows how to write some slow burn romances ending in some decent sex scenes! I love that about her writing and in this novel we have some added travel plans to enjoy along the way as well. Who wouldn't want to spend a book travelling the world with a main character and her travel expert companion? Great plot!

Eva Blue was an interesting character because she does go on a big journey over the course of this book, both metaphorically as well as literally. At the beginning of the book she leads a fairly sheltered life, as if to counteract her Mum's wild ways. She doesn't seem very worldly wise and often seems shocked by things around her. Her comments about different things in the world and the people she meets can sometimes come off as fairly judgemental and can verge on the sexist or homophobic but have no fear, she does develop and grow by the end of the book.

The travel in the book is so much fun and we either get to hear about it in the form of a narrative of Eva travelling or through Eva's postcards to her recently deceased mother. I liked hearing about Eva's experiences through her own eyes and seeing what particular things she is willing to take risks on and which she isn't. Thor is also an interesting character, one can't help but picture Chris Hemsworth when reading about him. He has a great relationship with his family but I didn't always agree with the ways in which he was willing to manipulate situations in order to spend more time with Eva. I'm sure he's not some kind of predator but I couldn't be positive.

On this whole this was a lovely read. The lack of diversity is made up for in the romance and the sex scenes. The sex scenes are always safe as well, utilising condoms and other methods of contraception was always mentioned. I loved the travel and would like to find out everything that happened when Eva and Thor travelled across the pond!

Guest Review: Coming Home to Maple Cottage by Holly Martin

This utterly addictive new novel from bestselling author Holly Martin will make you smile until your cheeks hurt, sob tears of pure joy and fall head over heels in love with a totally unforgettable romance…

Isla Rosewood is creating a new life for herself and her sweet nephew Elliot in their cosy, yellow-brick family cottage, brimming with special memories. Living in Sandcastle Bay was never part of Isla’s plan but, after her brother Matthew’s tragic accident, her whole world changed as she unexpectedly became a mother to the little boy she adores so much.

Leo Jackson was always known as Matthew’s fun-loving and wild best friend. But now Matthew is gone, it’s time to put his colourful past behind him. His role as Elliot’s godfather is the most important thing to him. And even though Leo and Isla are two very different people, they both want to give Elliot the childhood he deserves.

As the three of them enjoy time together watching fireworks, baking cakes and collecting conkers, Isla begins to see a softer side to charming Leo, with his twinkling eyes and mischievous sense of humour. And, despite herself, she begins to fall for him.

But does Leo feel the same way? Isla knows their situation is complicated but is it too complicated for true love… or will the year end with a happy new beginning for them all?

Review: I'm a big fan of Holly Martin's books and was really looking forward to reading this new one. This is the latest in a series of stories set in the seaside village of Sandcastle Bay. I haven't read the other titles in this series, but this story stands alone completely successfully; reading it has made me want to go back and read the others though. As with the other books I have read from this author, this story was quick to get into and I was soon immersed in the activities in this little village, finishing the entire book in just a couple of sittings.

The central character in this story is Isla. When we meet her in the first chapter, she has given up her life in London and moved to her childhood home of Sandcastle Bay to look after her nephew, Elliot, following the tragic death of her brother, a single dad. Luckily, she is assisted in this task by Leo, at one time considered a bit of a tearaway in the village, but now a devoted godfather who takes his responsibilities very seriously and is adored by Elliot. Between them, Isla and Leo ensure that Elliot has all the attention and fun that a little boy should have when growing up. Although Isla is at first unsure of Leo, she soon discovers a side to him that she never knew existed and finds herself growing fond of him. However, she is not sure how he feels and, indeed, whether she can stay in her lovely little cottage by the sea.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. There are some great characters throughout, with all the villagers and members of both Isla's and Leo's families. I was amused by how quickly 'news' travelled around the village, typical of small communities like this. The village itself sounded a really picturesque and friendly place to visit. The bakery/cafe would definitely be on my list of places to see. I can heartily recommend this wonderfully heartwarming story to anyone who enjoys a really good romantic tale.

Blog Tour: Summer at Rose Island by Holly Martin

Its my stop on the blog tour today! I have a review for you and if you keep scrolling down there is some author info and of course those all-important buy links! But firstly here's what it's all about:

Fall in love with the gorgeous seaside town of White Cliff Bay this summer and enjoy long sunny days, beautiful beaches and… a little romance.

Darcy Davenport is ready for a fresh start. Determined to leave a string of disastrous jobs and relationships behind her, she can’t wait to explore White Cliff Bay and meet the locals.

When Darcy swims in the crystal clear waters of the bay, she discovers the charming Rose Island Lighthouse. But it’s not just the beautiful building that she finds so intriguing…

Riley Eddison doesn’t want change. Desperate to escape the memories of his past, he lives a life of solitude in the lighthouse. Yet he can’t help but notice the gorgeous woman who swims out to his island one day.

Darcy is drawn to the mysterious and sexy Riley, but when it seems the town is trying to demolish his home, she soon finds herself having to pick sides.

She’s fallen in love with White Cliff Bay. But is that all Darcy’s fallen for?

Pull up a deck chair, sink back with a bowl of strawberry ice cream and pick up the summer read you won’t be able to put down.

Review: This book was a bit of a slow starter for me but once it got going I was loving the romantic tension and the air of mystery surrounding Darcy, Riley and  White Cliff Bay. I think that the reason this book took a while to get going for me was because I haven't read the previous 2 books in the series. I know they are awesome but I had to get to know the characters as I got into this book and I think that if I already knew the characters, things would have fallen into place a lot quicker. So my first piece of advice surrounding this book is that I would read this as the third in a series, enjoy the first two White Cliff Bay books before sinking into this one.

I quite like that fact that Holly martin writes about the characters we have already met in books one and two with familiarity, she doesn't spend long introducing them into the story. At the same time, we don't get to learn a lot about Darcy or Riley straight away. We know a lot about Darcy's family and some of the reasons that she has arrived at White Cliff bay but it is really quite interesting having to get to know these two characters as they get to know each other. We also discover that there is so much more to them than meets the eyes.

Now boy-does Holly Martin know how to write a love scene. I was feeling seriously hot under the collar every time Darcy and Riley looked at each other. Despite the fact that this was definitely a slow burner and nothing physical was ever explicit, it was seriously steamy. She must put as much passion into writing about their smouldering looks and soft kisses on the cheek as she does writing her descriptions of the waves, the sea and the atmosphere in the bay itself. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book. Overall I think this was a good summer read. For me, it suffered slightly because I hadn't read the previous two novels but if you've read those then I'm sure this one will grab you straight away! I suggest you go and binge read all three and then get back to me to discuss!
