Review: Mr Nobody by Catherine Steadman

Who is Mr. Nobody?

When a man is found on a British beach, drifting in and out of consciousness, with no identification and unable to speak, interest in him is sparked immediately. From the hospital staff who find themselves inexplicably drawn to him, to international medical experts who are baffled by him, to the national press who call him Mr. Nobody, everyone wants answers. Who is this man? And what happened to him?

Some memories are best forgotten.

Neuropsychiatrist Dr. Emma Lewis is asked to assess the patient in a small town deep in the English countryside. This is her field of expertise, this is the chance she’s been waiting for, and this case could make her name known across the world. But therein lies the danger. Emma left this same town fourteen years ago and has taken great pains to cover all traces of her past since then.

Places aren't haunted . . . people are.

But now something—or someone—is calling her back. And the more time she spends with her patient, the more alarmed she becomes that he knows the one thing about her that nobody is supposed to know.

Review: Wow I did not see that ending coming! Neither did I see many of the twists and turns along the way coming. Of course I made my own predictions as to Mr Nobody and his situation over the course of the novel but none of them, literally none of them turned out to be correct!

This novel is great because it has short chapters that tease out information ever so slowly so you literally cannot put it down. You think you'll just rad one more chapter and then there is another big Revelation and you just have to keep reading, Things happen so organically though you don't feel like the author is rally using shock value until you reflect afterwards and see all the dramatic events and revelations that have actually happened.

I love the fact that we have a slightly unreliable narrator in two ways in this book. We have Mr Nobody who doesn't know who he is and then we have Dr Emma Lewis who is trying to find out who Mr Nobody is and also has some identity issues of her own that she is dealing with. It is so hard to talk about either of them without giving any spoilers but this is a spoiler free review in its entirety. I really liked getting to know both of these characters. I felt like Emma was a good character to be carrying the story because she is very professional and is an expert in her field but when it comes to her personal life, we get little or no information and that just makes her so intriguing.

My Nobody is also very intriguing but for me I really enjoyed finding out about Emma, and the facts about Mr Nobody were given so sparingly I honestly thought we were never going to unravel him completely, and whether we do or not is another matter really.

I definitely sped through this book, it was creepy in pats and just achingly confusing in others but just in the best way possible. This is definitely a real page turner so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to read this because you know you need to add it to your TBR.
